At Global South Capital, we’ve been closely following how India’s push into semiconductors and EV batteries is creating opportunities far beyond the obvious. The spotlight often falls on fabs and giga factories, but behind them lies an equally critical layer: ultra-high purity gases and specialty chemicals. Over the past few years, India has moved from import dependence to building real on-ground capability: Local production replacing imported gases and battery salts. Strategic investments shaping a fully indigenous semiconductor and battery supply chain. Some of the key players driving this transformation: INOX Air Products, pioneering India’s first Electronic Specialty Gas Hub at Dholera with a ₹500 crore investment, supplying ultra-high purity specialty gases such as nitrogen, hydrogen, and fluorinated gases essential for semiconductor manufacturing and advanced electronics.

INOX INDIA LIMITED, developing advanced cryogenic infrastructure to ensure reliable, high-purity gas storage and delivery across India’s semiconductor and battery industries. Neogen Chemicals Limited, manufacturing key battery chemicals including Electrolytes and the key raw material for electrolytes which is lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6), a crucial electrolyte salt used in lithium-ion batteries, from its large-scale plant in Gujarat to support India’s EV battery ambitions.

Anupam Rasayan India Ltd is producing advanced EV battery electrolyte salts and specialty chemicals through its partnership with Elementium Materials (US), focusing on high-performance materials that improve battery efficiency and safety. It has recently signed an LOI with E-Lyte Europe, energy storage and with FUCHS for innovative lubricant solutions and is set to become a large global player in these segments. Jubilant Ingrevia Limited has 12 active semiconductor CDMO opportunities. They also have plans to synthesize upstream Fab grade materials which shows their advanced futuristic mindset.
